Expanding Access to High-Fidelity Mortality Data

How Datavant facilitates the creation of fit-for-purpose datasets for HEOR

Product: Mortality
Company:

Datavant

Overview

Datavant, the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare, has built a comprehensive ecosystem of data producers and consumers, all connected through a secure, privacy-preserving network. By integrating Veritas’ comprehensive, high-fidelity mortality data into its ecosystem, Datavant facilitates the creation of fit-for-purpose datasets for healthcare research and outcomes analysis.

Challenge

Datavant’s mission is to make the world’s health data secure, accessible, and actionable. Its ecosystem of 350+ real-world data partners — including medical claims, EHRs, lab, and specialty pharmacy sources — are connected via privacy-preserving infrastructure that enables data discovery and linkage at scale. However, these sources often fail to capture a critical endpoint in clinical research: patient mortality. Specifically, these sources may lack the high-fidelity, comprehensive data required for long-term safety surveillance, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and clinical studies.

Datavant recognized that to provide a truly complete mortality solution for its data network of over 350 RWD partners, it needed to fill this data gap with a best-in-class offering with timely, accurate, and comprehensive mortality endpoints and cause-of-death data.

Solution

Datavant partnered with Veritas to make Veritas’s Fact of Death Mortality Index available to all clients needing to incorporate mortality insights into a broad range of evidence-generation efforts.

The solution is built upon the integration of Veritas’s comprehensive data with Datavant’s secure infrastructure:

1. Privacy-Preserving Linkage: Datavant customers can now link Veritas’s mortality signals to their existing clinical and real-world datasets using Datavant’s privacy-preserving linkage capabilities.

2. Comprehensive Data Files: Datavant clients can now perform deidentified overlaps to rapidly see how many of the patients in their cohorts are deceased.

3. Secure Accessibility: Veritas’s mortality data is now available on Datavant Connect, powered by AWS Clean Rooms, enabling rapid discovery, access, and integration of the data by researchers.

Results

Adding Veritas’s Fact of Death and Cause of Death files is helping life sciences organizations identify survival events faster and with greater accuracy, enabling more proactive evidence planning and outcome measurement across a range of therapeutic areas.

“Veritas has built a mortality dataset that delivers critical insights to researchers in terms of completeness, timeliness, and real-world usability,” said Arnaub Chatterjee, President and GM of Life Sciences at Datavant. “By scaling access to their dataset across our 350+ real-world data partners, we’re enabling researchers to access mortality signals earlier and in a more integrated format than ever before.”
